This book began life as a series of articles in “The Gospel Magazine”, which the author has expanded to full length. It is indeed a most valuable and timely work which examines new covenant theology in a clear, concise, and entirely factual manner. The author quotes at length from various leading proponents of NCT and by allowing them to speak for themselves is able to fully demonstrate the elastic, imprecise and undefined nature of NCT. It is clear from the book that NCT propounds a fundamental lack of continuity and cohesion between the Old and New Testaments, and emphasises personal spiritual experience and mysticism over fundamental Biblical doctrine. The Westminster Confession, and other historic Protestant confessions of faith are attacked by NCT authors. Mr McGrane demonstrates clearly that NCT is rooted in the errors and heresies of 16th century radical anabaptists; indeed one NCT author quotes Michael Servetus, the heretic and blasphemer, with apparent approval! This is an excellent and well written book and is highly recommended.
