EVANGELICAL PROTESTANT SOCIETY – RESPONSE TO HOUSE OF COMMONS VOTE ON SSM AND ABORTION
10 July 2019
Along with countless others across the community divide in Northern Ireland, we are both appalled and greatly saddened by the decision by MPs to facilitate the introduction of “same sex marriage” and radical reforms to our abortion laws.
We believe that the Speaker should not have permitted the amendments to be included in the Bill, but his actions in this regard come as no surprise. Westminster should not be legislating in this way on matters which are devolved and upon which the people of Northern Ireland have strongly held views.
The endorsing of unbiblical lifestyles and the killing of unborn children will bring no blessing. On the contrary, they will be a blight upon our Province. Already we have witnessed the triumphalism of the LGBT and “Pro Choice” lobbies who now scent victory. We appeal to our politicians to take whatever steps they can to prevent these amendments from ever becoming law, and we appeal to all evangelical Protestants to make these issues priorities for prayer in their own personal devotions and in their churches. “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).
